MaryJo Polette

Twenty some years ago, Mary Jo saw actor Dennis Weaver on the Tonight Show, proudly sharing his llamas with Johnny Carson.   Love at first sight?  Little did she realize, her home was barely 100 miles from the Llama capital of the world, Sisters, Oregon.  A later trip to central Oregon renewed her interest in llamas, and captured her heart once more.

Raising llamas was actually Bruce's Dad's solution to a growing brush/weed problem in 1995.   He suggested that if Bruce and Mary Jo put up a fence, he would bring them some llamas.   Mary Jo couldn't get the fence up fast enough! That fence was strategically placed among some 10,000 daffodils, and Daffodil Hill Llamas was born.

Pure Peruvian Huacaya Alpacas were added to the herd in 2002.  A natural complement, alpacas and llamas are of the same camelid family, and share many physical traits as well as much the same care. They co-exist beautifully!

Today, Daffodil Hill is home to more than 20 llamas, and more than a dozen alpacas. Nestled in the forested hills of south Salem, Oregon, the farm is situated in an ideal temperate climate for raising and enjoying these animals year round. The emphasis for the alpacas and llamas is the same: breeding fine fibered animals with quality conformation and delightful, people-friendly dispositions.  Whether you are looking for a show-quality Peruvian alpaca or kid-friendly llama for 4-H or your own brush control, Daffodil Hill has an excellent assortment of colors and shapes to suit most any need.  We are expecting eight cria in 2005 from our newest herdsire, Peaceful Valley Surya,  a handsome white Accoyo son.  His stud service will be available in 2005.  We love to share our knowledge and  our animals, and look forward to your visit!
